Borderlands 4 has received a major update with performance improvements and new content

19.09.2025

Borderlands 4 has received a long-awaited update that improves the performance of the resource-intensive game. The project received mixed reviews due to its optimisation at release.

Gearbox Software has released a 758 MB update for the PC version of Borderlands 4, which addresses performance issues and fixes bugs that negatively affected progress. The latest patch ‘improves stability and optimises progression for a smoother gameplay experience.’

The developers will release a new Big Boss every week — an enhanced version of an existing boss with an increased loot pool. In addition, players will gain access to new missions with guaranteed legendary item drops and will be able to find Maurice's Black Market Vending Machine in a new location offering unique items.

In terms of performance, the update aims to eliminate various crashes related to animation, sound, collisions, and GPU usage. Gameplay and progression fixes have also been made, including resolving an issue where ‘the Rewards Centre could stop working after receiving the Gilded Glory Pack rewards’ and fixing ‘progress blocking in the “Talk to Zadra” mission, where the quest could fail if players exited and restarted the game during dialogue.’

The issue where gamers encountered a ‘does not own DLC’ warning on standard equipment has also been fixed. Additionally, loot pools have been updated ‘so that weapons from the Gilded Glory Pack no longer appear in standard chests.’

Borderlands 4's performance on PC has remained an issue since its release, despite Gearbox head Randy Pitchford's claims that ‘less than one-hundredth of a percent’ of PC players have reported ‘actual performance issues’ through support.
