Borderlands 4 developers called for the game's servers to be ‘shut down’: details

17.09.2025

Gearbox challenged Borderlands fans - company president Randy Pitchford assured them that Borderlands 4 servers are ‘rock solid,’ so the developers organised an event for the community to try to overload the system.

On social media, Pitchford reminded fans that many major AAA releases have experienced server crashes on launch day, but Borderlands 4 is ready to avoid such problems. What's more, he promised a reward to anyone who could prove otherwise. For now, the studio is giving all players who log into the game this weekend a Break Free cosmetic set.

Despite initial optimisation issues — FPS drops and crashes even in solo mode — the game has already topped Steam sales and attracted over 288,000 concurrent players.

As a reminder, Borderlands 4 was released on 11 September and is available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2.
