Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said that China is ‘literally nanoseconds behind’ the US in artificial intelligence and chip manufacturing. In an interview with the BG2 podcast on technology and investment, he reiterated his previous statements about the need for Nvidia and the American tech industry to actively compete in the Chinese market.
Meanwhile, China is accelerating the creation of its own AI infrastructure. According to media reports, the authorities have obliged local data centres to purchase at least 50% of chips from domestic manufacturers in order to reduce dependence on American technologies. Huawei has become the leader of this movement with its Ascend 910B processors and non-CUDA solutions.
However, cooperation with China is becoming increasingly difficult for Nvidia. In August, the company had to suspend production of the H20 after the Chinese government raised safety concerns. And the Cyberspace Administration of China banned local corporations from purchasing Nvidia RTX Pro 6000D graphics cards, which were specifically designed for the Chinese market.
As a result, large companies, including Tencent, began to actively switch to their own hardware solutions based on Chinese chips.
